September 2013

 Scribe Notes from Craig F.

  • There will be a watersports camp out at Diamond Lake on September 27th through September 29th! This will include fishing, a service project, food prepared by the fossils, and, of course, watersports! This includes waterskiing, wakeboarding, kneeboarding, and tubing. Adults are NEEDED to make this campout work, so any adults that want to come are more than welcome. Stay tuned for more information.
  • There was a watersports merit badge meeting before tonight's troop meeting, but for those interested, its not to late to get involved. Robert Blegen will be offering a make up meeting at 6:00 on Monday the 16th before the actual watersports meeting at 6:30. Be sure to get involved if you are interested. The meeting will be held a room at the back of the church.
  • Other water merit badges will be offered on demand, such as rowing, canoeing, motor boating, and kayaking. Be sure to sign up at the next meeting if you want to take any of these merit badges.
  • Information on Citizenship in the Nation and Communications merit badge meetings will be sent out soon.
  • STEM merit badge university is on the 21st of September, and its not too late to sign up. if you sign up by tomorrow there is no late fee! if you have issues with transportation, contact Kevin Fricke and he will help you out.
  • One of the topics covered at the meeting was the lack of individual patrol meetings, so be sure to talk amongst your patrol members and plan one of those soon.
  • Josh Lobdell is the new webmaster, and he is planning on putting a new page on the troop website. If you would like to be on the committee for that, contact him.
  • On this Saturday the 14th at 3:00, there will be a Farewell Gary party at the Terry's house. Be sure to RSVP to let the him know how much food he need to purchase.
  • Finally, popcorn season is starting up again. Online sales have already started, but you can go door to door starting on the 27th. Our troop will be selling popcorn at Albertsons on September the 27th from 3:00-6:00, the 28th from 10:00-3:00, and October the 25th from 3:00-6:00.

This Mondays meeting was a blast! If you missed out, these were the major points covered:
  • The Outdoor Code is now being said before all meetings to help people learn it for their Boards of Review.
  • There is a campout this weekend from Friday the 27th to Sunday the 29th. We will be leaving the church at 7:00, so be sure to plan accordingly. Since this conflicts with Albertsons popcorn sales, any boys who are on the campout and would like to sell can be transported there by adults on the campout. As of now, we have 23 kids and 11 adults signed up for the campout and room for lots more!
  • There will be a pack check for the campout this Wednesday at 6:30 for all scouts that are attending and under 1st class. Our Troop Instructor Seth W volunteered to run the pack check, so be sure to thank him. However, more scouts over 1st class are needed to help check packs, so if you can come, please do!
  • If it turns out to be colder on the campout, we will do watersports later in the day and instead do a plant identification tour with forester Brian Gilbert in the morning! This will be a TON of fun.
  • If you would like to do any additional water sports related merit badges at this weekends campout, contact Carsten B so he can put your name on the list.
  • Our Troop will be helping run the Boy Scout kiosk at Valleyfest this weekend on the 21st and the 22nd. We will be setting up at 8:30 and doing 2 hour shifts. If you are interested in getting some sweet service hours, contact Ben L.
  • If you went on the canoeing high adventure trip this summer and would like a shirt, be sure to tell Evan O. Don't miss out on this great opportunity!
  • STEM will be held at Gonzaga on September the 21st and November the 16th. If you haven't signed up yet, you may have missed the boat, but it is worth a try.
  • Citizenship in the Nation merit badge will be held for the first 3 Mondays in October, starting on the 7th, from 6:00-6:45.
  • Nature merit badge will be starting soon, more information to be released later.
  • Go to the district website if you still have unfinished merit badges from summer camp and you can't find a counselor in the troop. There is a list of councilors throughout the Grizzly District, and they can help you finish up your requirements.
  • Finally, at least one person from each patrol needs to bring a knife for the skill next week!!!
